SPORTS SPECIALIST CHIROPRACTIC

Traditional Chiropractors are primary healthcare professionals who focus on the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal disorders, mainly related to the spine. The traditional chiropractor's overall goal is to reduce pain and restore function by adjusting or manipulating the spine. Though this form of chiropractic offers many health benefits to patients, it is often not quite enough for those who participate in sports and exercise.

While all general chiropractors receive some instruction in the management of sports injuries, a Sports Specialist Chiropractor undergoes several additional years of specialized and advanced training in sports injury diagnosis and management of the entire body, not just the spine. A Sports Specialist Chiropractor adopts an orthopaedic and sports medicine model to the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal injuries.

A sports specialist fellowship is only granted to chiropractors who have completed an intensive post graduate residency program and successfully passed a rigorous 2 day fellowship examination process. The Royal College of Chiropractic Sports Sciences (Canada) is the national governing organization for Sports Specialist Chiropractic in Canada. Not every "Sports Chiropractor" is a Sports Chiropractic Fellow. Sports Specialist Chiropractors in Canada are uniquely designated with FRCCSS(C) and there are currently only approximately 120 Sports Specialists Chiropractors with this designation worldwide. Currently, we have the only Sports Specialist Chiropractor practicing in Milton, Ontario.

Sport Specialist Chiropractic visits at Pro Form Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation typically include a comprehensive 60 minute initial visit and 20-30 minute subsequent visits that are one on one with your Sports Specialist Chiropractor. Each treatment is patient specific and may include education, orthopaedic bracing, rehabilitative exercise, soft tissue and manual therapy techniques, physical therapy modalities, athletic taping and acupuncture.
